Flip through the pages of any design magazine and you’ll likely see a reading nook nestled beneath bow windows. In today’s fast-paced e-society, wouldn’t it be nice to have a serene spot in your home where you can watch the sunrise while sipping tea or unwind with a good a good book at the end of a long day? Here’s how to create a comfortable nook in your own home.

Find a Quiet Spot

While you can create a reading nook anywhere in your home, it’s difficult to read and relax in a high-traffic area like the kitchen or rec room. Find a relaxing space where you can easily install bow windows in your Charlotte home.

Select the Right Window

All bow windows in Charlotte are not equal. Like most house windows, they are available in a variety of styles, including:

  • Casement
  • Double-hung
  • Picture

It is typically a best to choose a picture window for the larger, center window in your reading nook for safety purposes. If you want the option to enjoy fresh air while in your reading nook, either of the smaller end panels can be opening styles.

You also want to limit your selection to low-e styles. These prevent the temperature in your nook from becoming uncomfortable in hot summer months.

Add Seating

A built-in bench piled with pillows is always a favorite in reading nooks. But it isn’t a must-have. Don’t be afraid to think beyond the bench. If your architecture supports it, consider hanging a couple of Swingasans in front of your bow windows. Or, simply use a comfortable love seat in the space.

Flank with Bookshelves

No reading nook is complete without plenty of reading material nearby. Flank your new bow windows in Charlotte with a couple of bookshelves and voila! You have yourself a reading nook.
